Switzerland – Motor vehicles – Field strength measurement vehicles OFCOM

The section Radio Monitoring (RM) of the department of Radio Monitoring and Systems (RA) of the Federal Office of Communication (OFCOM) has mobile measurement systems that enable wireless communication to be reconnoitred and interference sources to be identified and located. In order to fulfil the performance mandate issued by the Federal Department of the Environment, Transport, Energy and Communications (DETEC) to OFCOM to determine the radio interference of the security services and aircraft radio within 8 hours, RM relies on a high level of operational readiness from its field strength measurement vehicles. The four field strength measurement vehicles from the RM operation as well as the two measurement vehicles from the RM specialised service have been in operation for around 13 years. Due to their age and the increasing costs of repair, both for the vehicle as well as for the installed technical infrastructure (mast, inverters, voltage converters, etc.) the field strength measurement vehicles and the measurement vehicles need to be replaced.
