Ireland – Construction work – Cornamaddy Mixed Tenure Residential Development, Athlone, Co. Westmeath

Westmeath County Council proposes to develop a 5.66 hectare site at Cornamaddy, Athlone, as a sustainable mixed-tenure residential community comprising approximately 94 or more homes, and associated infrastructure. The tenure mix will include 30% social housing, 20% affordable housing, and 50% private sale or rental. The lands are fully in the ownership of Westmeath County Council, zoned for residential use. The site is located approximately 2 km north of Athlone town centre along the Ballymahon Road (N55). While this is outside the typical walking distance to the town’s main convenience shopping, a well-established neighbourhood centre is situated less than 500 metres from the site. This centre includes a SuperValu, pharmacy, optician and a Costa Coffee. In addition, the Fernhill Garden Centre and Restaurant providing high quality dining is located approximately 300 metres away. A petrol filling station with an associated convenience shop is also located within 250 metres of the site.
