The HSE National Distribution Service (NDS) provides logistics and inventory management services to HSE locations nationally. It manages Point of Use (POU) inventory locations in over 500 acute and community sites. The Point of Use (POU) scanning application and hardware are critical to the efficient delivery of this service. HSE Procurement has operated the Scanpoint solution since 2015. The current scanners cannot be upgraded and therefore need to be replaced. In addition, to the operating system the Scanpoint scanning application is no longer supported, as it was developed to operate on windows CE. The scanning application will be developed as an end-to-end proof of concept with a limited number of scanners being purchased for use in a single location. Once the pilot has been completed successfully, the solution will be rolled out to all NDS POU locations on a phased basis with additional scanning devices being purchased as required.
