University of Galway request the supply of a Full CNC Vertical Machining Centre (CNC Milling Machine). The purpose of this instrument is for use in the School of Engineering, a functioning workshop where students are introduced to some of the relevant industrial best practices involved in bringing concept designs to reality. The facilities include several conventional lathes and milling machines, and also some teaching level CNC machines. Since the lab also supports research activities, the current tender hopes to increase machining capacities to a larger machining envelope, and increase tool capacity, increase spindle speeds and power, and include a 4th axis option. The machining envelope to overall machine footprint ratio needs to be as large as possible and will form a significant part of the tender evaluation. Also, consideration needs to be taken to minimise machine shipping dimensions. The avenues of access to the lab are through long corridors with door openings of 1780mm (width) x 2320mm (height). Tenderers should satisfy themselves that their potential machine will be able to be delivered and installed in the lab.
