Norway – Site preparation work – Prior Information Notice - U-864 Keel access and mercury canister retrieval
Tender Description
The Norwegian Coastal Administration (NCA) is planning a procurement for a new offshore campaign to investigate the wreckage parts of the submarine U-864 off the coast of Fedje. The main objective is to obtain access to a limited section of the keel of one or both wreck parts in order to retrieve mercury canisters and assess their condition, as well as evaluate the condition of the keel boxes along as much of the wreck's length as possible. There is also a need to map the depth to bedrock in the area immediate vicinity of the wreck parts. The operation will require expertise in environmental monitoring and in excavation/dredging and/or drilling in contaminated sediments at water depths corresponding to the site (140-160 metres). Alternative approach for accessing the keel and assessing its conditioning may be considered, provided they are proven and tested. The stability of the wreck parts must be maintained throughout the operation. NCA plans to publish the tender notice on 1 September 2025. On 5 September, the NCA will invite potential suppliers to a supplier conference to provide further information about the procurement, the purpose of the investigation, results from recently conducted mapping of the wreck parts, and physical conditions at the wreck site to better describe the complexity of the planned sub-sea operation. The conference will be held via Microsoft Teams, and suppliers will have the opportunity to ask questions following an introductory presentation. Registration should be sent via email to lill.veronika.benjaminsen@kystverket.no by 12:00 PM (CEST) on 4 September". Please mark the email with: "Registration Supplier Conference Keel access and mercury canister retrieval." Suppliers who register by within the deadline will receive a Teams invitation. Please note that the planned offshore campaign is complex and may require suppliers to engage subcontractors to cover the requested scope. Based on previous experience, early preparation of the tender is recommended.Tentative Timeline for the Procurement Process:1. September 2025: Publication of tender notice5.
